Whow! I remember these phantastic, big, impressive, noisy and dirty planes taking off at Laarbruch. Must have been in the early 80's. What a pitty that AS and his friends didn't experience that! The Vulcans were regular visitors at Laarbruch at weekend as part of the nuclear deterrence force / strategic force of the RAF.

Hello all,
First time I saw a Vulcan was on my 'Passing Out' Parade (end of RAF basic training) was at RAF Swinderby in 1974.
As the Commanding Officer was taking the salute, a great shadow appeared over us, and then the noise hit us. It was a Vulcan doing a 'VERY LOW' flypass. She flew over us, then peeled off to the left and put on full power and climbed. I could feel my kidneys shaking!
Cheers,
Nick

I have seen a vulcan flying twice. But never an operational one.
The one I have seen was at Mildenhall Airshow and Fairford (XH558 off course).
It's an amazing plane, and what noise it makes!!! Very loud and very nice sound!!
I have never seen them at Laarbruch, but what I sight it must have been...
Lets face the fact. My mom and dad..... well let's yust say... I was born too late!!

Hi Ron, what a pitty! The last Vulcan over Niederrhein I saw was during my military service and exercise "taceval" around June 1982 at SOC "Crabtree" (Paulsberg) Uedem. It appeared suddenly as a great surprise while that boaring exercise was almost over! And incredibly low (not als low as the "attacking" Buccs, but...)!

Rolf, you lucky ******!
I wish I saw them live... it is an amazing aircraft.
But the English only made great aircraft at that time... Canberra, Buccaneer, Hunter, all the "V-Bombers" (Vulcan, Victor, Valliant)
all big and noisy aircraft.
Wenn we were spotting at Laarbruch in the 84-90's we had often discussion on who build the more nice aircraft the US or the UK.
I'd say the UK!!!
A victor or vc10 is cooler that a kc10 or kc135
A vulcan is nicer than a B-1
A Buccaneer is nicer than a phantom
A hunter is nicer than an A-4
You can say what you want about the english but they build cool
aircraft!
And all these aircraft could be seen DAILY in the Niederrhein skies!!
