A planned Exercise over parts of Wales and the South West of England between 4th - 22nd September

The Ministry of Defence has announced that a medium scale helicopter exercise will take place over parts of Wales and the South West of England during the period 4 th to 22 nd of September.

Up to 18 helicopters, including Chinooks, Sea Kings, Merlins and Lynx, will be taking part in low flying operations across Devon, Cornwall and Pembrokeshire. The flying phases of the exercise, which is, code-named “Grey Cormorant”, is part of an Amphibious Task Group deployment exercise and forms part of the vital pre-deployment training for aircrews prior to their embarking for duties directed by the Ministry of Defence.

Most of the helicopter activity will take place between ships at sea and selected locations around the coast within existing military training areas. Flying will take place during both day and night time but inconvenience and disturbance to the public by low flying helicopters will be kept to the minimum commensurate with operational training. ENDS.

NOTES FOR EDITORS

1. In Devon the training will take place at Barnstaple, Chivenor, Fremington Burrows and Braunton Burrows.

2. In Cornwall the areas affected are Culdrose, Portreath and Predannack.

3. In the Plymouth area training will take place on Dartmoor, at Tregantle and Jennycliff/Staddon Heights.
