De-icing NRN at sunday?

Beitrag von PH-MCA »

Sunday evening I read this at Ryanair's website:

23:10 9262 Alghero Sardinia to Girona (Barcelona) ETA 2330 EARLIER DE-ICING OF AIRCRAFT AT NIEDERRHEIN

Why would they de-ice an aircraft at NRN when temperatures are like 8 degrees Celsius? Anyone knows if this information is correct?

For most of the flight the aircraft is flying in freezing conditions, this causes the fuel in the wings to become very very cold. When the aircraft is on the ground and outside temperatures are not too high (like 8 degrees) the fuel can still cause iceing on the wing. So this can be the reasson why they had to do de-icing, even when temperatures are above freezing.

Hope this helps!

Yes, this is right, I saw it also once last week with an FR Flight from/to GRO.
May be because the flights from GRO are mutch longer than for example STN, the Plane becomes colder in the inside and they additinally need mutch more fuel.
