Yeah that would be great, but what will they do with DTM then????

If they buy Easyjet, then they can choose between NRN and DTM to set up a base... And if NRN by that time cannot be called "Dusseldorf-Regional" then they will probably go for DTM. Although NRN lies more central for the dutch travellers...

Wait and see...

DTM is an airport that costs to much. The airport will have a negative result this year alone of over €28 mil. This is all coming out of the pockets of the public living in and around DTM because the airport is a 100% subsidiary of the city works in Dortmund.

All of this said, with in 45 minutes driving time around DTM is FMO, PAD and DUS. It only takes approximately 45-60 minutes to get to NRN from there, depending on the traffic. The area and the people living around the airport are also against it, because of the noise there. DTM is an airport that the city has grown out to and around it. This makes any type of extension impossible.

If this rumor about easyjet and ryanair is correct it will first take quite a bit of time before something of this magnitude is completed. DTM will try to fight to keep easyjet/ryanair there. Think about the possibilities of the two airports (NRN & DTM). You will see, that NRN offers more to it simply because of its size and possibilities.

DTM has another finacial problem right now. AB and LH are not paying their full fairs right now because of the information that they have received that easyjet is paying quite a bit less per passenger for handling fees. The airport and the airlines are going to court over this. A signed contract is a signed contract meaning that AB and LH may have to pay their agreed fees, with back-pay for funds withheld. This may also mean that they would, as soon as the contracts are over with, leave DTM.

NRN has a pricing policy that is low already. This is passed on the the airports customers (airlines). All employees at DTM are payed by public funds. This makes the airport, from a personnel stand-point, very very expensive! In NRN, all companies working there are private companies. Some of them receive thier funding from government institutions, but that is because the geovernment is the controlling authority. This is the same at all airports, world-wide. But still, NRN is able to keep all costs at a minimum, and pass this on to its customers. Not like other airports where everyone there lives from public funding.

So, as you can see, all positive arguments point to NRN. Just wait and see, like the rest of us!

You won´t think Stallios will be so stupid and sell his 40% share on Easyjet. And don´t forget that Icelandair just bought a stake in Easyjet. :D
