Avro Vulcan B2 XL427 (8756M) on the fire dump at RAF Machrihanish 1982 has its landing gear blown off. Allan Henshaw remembers:

'In view of the zephyr ocean breezes experienced there it was decided that it would be safer off its undercarriage. The work was carried out by the Armament Support Unit at Wittering (the EOD mob).'

The Vulcan was a reular visitor at RAF Laarbruch during the seventies, two of them flying in on every friday, leaving monday morning. Probably prepaired for nucleas counter strike (Fortunately never neccessary).
