Squadron takes on 'powerful' new look
Northolt-based 32 (The Royal) Squadron will operate a new VIP and communications helicopter in 2006. The squadron - which currently operates three Twin Squirrel helicopters - will convert to three Agusta 109 Power helicopters by 1 April next year.
The Defence Logistics Organisation, on behalf of Headquarters 2 Group accepted the AgustaWestland tender, following a competition, for the provision of a Civil Owned Military Registered helicopter.
Squadron Leader Neil Strevens, Officer Commanding B Flight, said: "We will be operating the Twin Squirrels right up until the last moment and the transition to the A109 will have to be smooth. The A109 promises an impressive safety margin and is around 20 per cent faster than our current type. Over shorter distances it can carry a maximum of six people which gives us greater flexibility."
Cheers,
