29/05 we went to Rome Ciampino with Ryanair..... from Charleroi
Believe me, I have tried everything to fly from NRN to CIA.
NRN-STN + STN-CIA was no problem.
CIA-STN + STN-NRN was a problem (fully booked)
I tried then CIA to MUC and then with VBird to NRN but this became expensive.
NRN-CIA from Thurday to Tuesday was not an option either.
So had had to leave NRN for wat is was and went to CRL by CAR.
At CRL you park you car on the oposite side of the airfield and can get a (free) bus to the terminal. So this takes some time.
The terminal is not very big and the restaurant is not so big either.
Check in went smoothly and we went on our way..... at least we thought we went on our way.
After backtrack we taxied bach to the parking spot wetre we left because some child had a piece of candy stuck in his throath and was brought to the hospital.
So we took of with 20 min delay, but we didn't mind that. Important was that the kid was ok.
Terminal and Tower @ CRL airport
The other 737-800 wich was at CRL
During the flight the flight attendants came with drinks and sandwiches.
Service was very friendly and fast. (and expensive ) But quite good.
Not as good as Vbird though...
After 1,5 of flight we nade a rough touchdown @ Ciampino Airport.
This is a combined mil/civ airport so you have to be carefull with taking pics.
Italian Air Force A319's
After we claimed our bagage wich took half an hour, we went to the car rental.
We rented a car with Ryanairs rental service so we had an car with "Hertz" car rental.
Let me give a tip: DO NOT rent with Herz!!! Every body seems to want a car from hertz so the waiting time to get a car went up to 1,5 hours!!!!!
Our colleague Volkel spotters had a car with AVIS within 20minutes....
We came at our Hotel at 23.00... and after a nice MCDonalds meal we went straight to bed.
Sunday we spent all day at the Airshow of Pratica di Mare.
It was a nice airshow
A VERY nice airshow
On monday we went back to CRL again.
But we had a 2 hour delay because of closure of CIA airspace due to a flypast of the Italian Military.
@ CIA there were some USAF aircraft like a C-17 a C-32 and A VH-60 helicopter. All preperation for the arrival of president Bush on wednesday.
A said before photographing is difficult an not advisable, but you can do something through the glass after you went through customs :
This CL415 is taken through the glass @ CIA.
Taken from the 737-800....
It was a nice trip, but our conclusion:
Waiting times are very long everywere!!!
But it was worth the wait!
