FR callsigns

Beitrag von Triple Nickel »

Hi all,

What I have been asking myself for a long time is the following:

The Ryanair aircraft are (of cource) using their flightnumbers as Callsign.

So is FR3252 "Ryanair3252"

But everytime wenn FR3254 Arrives at NRN they have as callsigen "Ryanair325V" (Ryanair Three Two Five Victor)

Wenn they depart NRN they are called "Ryanair Three Two Five Quebec"

I heard the Barcelona one came in as FR929A today.

Does anyone the meaning of these letter codes???

With Vbird a letter code at the end mostly meant it was an aircraft on loan. Example: Wenn Bae146 D-AMAJ arrived without pax it had callsign "Veebee101Pappa"

More airlines use this system to avoid confusion with other flight numbers. I.e. British Airways uses letter-suffixes in every callsign, Lufthansa also does this "Lufthansa four alpha-charlie" etc.

So, no aircraft on loan, just normal procedure!
